Join us in supporting our community with food, clothing, and resources for those in need. Together we can make a difference!

Project Comunidad was born out of a moment of uncertainty—and a decision to act. When another local nonprofit could no longer provide food assistance, families in Luna County were at risk of losing a vital lifeline. Many relied on monthly food boxes, and without them, the impact would have been immediate and severe. We couldn’t let that happen, so our family stepped in.
What began as an urgent response quickly became a lasting commitment. We created Project Comunidad to ensure our neighbors continue to have access to the food and support they depend on.
In 2025, we served 6,169 households and 12,975 individuals across Luna County. A majority are seniors now facing difficult choices between food, healthcare, and other essentials. We believe no one should have to make those choices alone.
Each food box is more than groceries—it is connection, dignity, and care. As one community member shared, “I am 64 years old… on a fixed budget due to a disability. The commodities Project Comunidad provides has allowed my household some desperately needed relief.”
What started as a family effort has grown into a community-wide mission grounded in compassion and resilience. As need grows, so does our commitment to ensuring no one is left behind.

We offer a variety of programs to help our community members meet their needs. We have our Community Cupboard food pantry open two days a week, on Wednesday and Friday, where community members can come once a month to get a food box. We also have our community closet, where we offer weather-appropriate clothing to those in need.
Introducing our new FFWB program!
We have partnered with UNM Office of Community Health to start our Family Financial Well-being program. We are currently conducting assessments with community members to determine what resources are needed to help them reach financial stability. If you would like to participate in our assesment feel free to reach out and we will make an appointment.

At Project Comunidad, our mission is to provide essential resources and support to individuals and families facing economic hardships, empowering them to meet their basic human needs and achieve stability in their lives.

Volunteers are the backbone of our organization. We offer a variety of opportunities for individuals and groups to get involved and make a difference in the lives of those we serve.
As of September 2025, we will no longer be holding food distributions. We realized that with the food distributions, people were lining up the day before, making it hard for the people who showed up for the scheduled time to receive food. We are hoping that by eliminating the distributions, we will reduce the fear of scarcity and be better able to ensure that everyone who comes in gets what they need. The food pantry will continue to be open Wednesday, and Friday, 9 am to 12 pm. You come in to the pantry once a month for food. We have increased our pantry order and hope that this will better assist us in serving everyone more effectively. We appriciate your support and patience as we transition and figure out the amounts needed to ensure everyone has what they need.

We are excited to announce that we have partnered with the University of New Mexico's Office of Community Health (UNM OCH) to start a new program!

Thanks to our partnership with UNM OCH, we have brought on two student interns from Deming's Early College High School. Our interns are currently doing community assessments to find out what resources our community needs for individuals to reach financial stability. Make an appointment and meet our newest team members and to have your voices heard!
We love our community members, so feel free to visit during normal business hours!

“I am 64 years old and have lived in Deming most of my life. I am on a fixed income due to a disability, and the food from Project Comunidad has brought my household some desperately needed relief. I am truly grateful for their care and concern for our community.”

“Project Comunidad helps me get groceries. My income is low and my food stamps are limited. Their support helps me save money and access the food I need. It’s a great program for people with low income, including those experiencing homelessness.”

“Personally, it has helped me, my wife, and our four children—all under 10. It helps us get through the month, especially when we run out of EBT before it renews. Those 10–12 days without it feel like the longest. From the bottom of my heart, thank you—you are a blessing to my family and this community.”

"It is a way for me to give back to my community. It has truly opened my eyes to the needs of our community. I really enjoy meeting the people. This is a way we truly support each other. Until I started volunteering, I never really thought about how those without a home would store produce, let alone something that needs refrigeration or frozen food items. Our community is resilient. Being at the food pantry makes more appreciative not only for what I have but, for the people of Deming."

Thank you for stopping by!
We are currently out of food and will reopen on April 8.
Our pantry hours are Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 am to 12 pm.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
